Brighton & Hove Junior Chess Club
isn't currently meeting at the moment,
but will resume at a later date.

BHJCC was launched in May 2004 at Cornerstone Community Centre in Hove on Thursday evenings from 6 until 7pm.

Since then over 100 children have come along to enjoy this most ancient of games and to have fun playing against children from other schools. Badges and prizes are added incentive.

An average session starts with 10 minutes of friendly warm-up games, then 10-15 minutes tuition on the large demonstration board, and finishes with one club championship game each week, which can last up to half-an-hour.
The club caters for absolute beginners, through county level, and up to budding national champions. Ages have ranged from 5-16, with around 40% of the current membership being girls.

Some of the children will filter through into the highly successful Sussex Junior Chess set-up (www.sussexjuniorchess.org). A couple of seasons ago Sussex won the National Under-11 Team title for the first time. Sussex JC organise a series of seven chess events over the year forming a Grand Prix, along with half-a-dozen special training days.

At our club we have seen seven of our players represent the county, along with two of our girls becoming county champions -- Iona Rose and Eliza McHugh. Earlier this year Iona became BWCA National Girls Under-11 Champion at York.
